Abdominoplasty in Montreal
The surgical procedure of abdominoplasty involves removing excess skin and fat in the middle or lower part of the abdomen. It helps to eliminate loose skin, tighten the abdominal muscles, and rejuvenate the abdomen by giving it a more athletic appearance. By reducing skin folds and excising scars and stretch marks that have formed in the lower abdomen, the change is often very impressive. Why Consider Abdominoplasty?
Repeated pregnancies and significant weight fluctuations are often responsible for stretching the structures of the abdominal wall. Deep elastic fibers sometimes tear and produce stretch marks. The softened skin and weakening of the abdominal wall muscles give a protruding appearance to the belly. Diets and exercises cannot firm up the skin, eliminate wrinkles, and flatten the stomach.

Consultation
- The consultation is essential for planning the intervention. Is concurrent liposuction of the flanks or waist necessary? What length will the scar be?
- Some patients may only need liposuction or tightening with Renuvion. There are then no scars, and the recovery is faster. During the consultation, your surgeon will be able to indicate which of the procedures suits you best.

The Surgery
- The complete procedure takes between two and three hours depending on the extent of the work required. A mini-abdominoplasty or partial abdominoplasty along with liposuction takes between one and two hours.
- General anesthesia is required, but sometimes an epidural with sedation can be an option.
- The incision is made from one hip to the other. Another incision is made to free the umbilicus. Tightening of the muscles is almost always necessary and is included in the surgery.
- With a mini-abdominoplasty, the incision is much smaller, and there is no umbilical incision. With liposuction and Renuvion, there are no visible scars.
- The result of the surgery will be a flatter and thinner abdomen. However, the scars are permanent, they fade over time and can easily be hidden in a swimsuit.

After the Surgery
- There will be a drain in place for a few days. Its presence is important as it allows for the collection of seromas that may accumulate under the skin. Once the drain is removed, you will be allowed to shower.
- During the first few days, discomfort and pain are well controlled with a prescription of painkillers. You will be able to move with a little assistance from the first day.
- We will see you for the drain removal and a second time within the first 10 days.
- To reduce swelling and fluid accumulation under the skin, you will need to wear an elastic garment for the first 4 weeks. It will be provided to you.
- Some numbness of the skin in the lower abdomen will occur and last for several months. It is harmless.
- The return to normal activities varies from patient to patient. Generally, it takes two to four weeks to return to work depending on the type of exertion required. If you are in good physical shape or if you only undergo liposuction, recovery is faster.
- Gradual return to sports activities is recommended after a minimum of 2 months and should be adjusted according to tolerance and intensity.
- Soon, your new silhouette will delight you.
