Eyelid Lift Blepharoplasty in Montreal

The goal of Blepharoplasty is to restore the natural brightness of the gaze.

Everything You Need to Know About Eyelid Lift Blepharoplasty

The first signs of aging often appear on the eyelids in the form of excess skin, fatty bags, and wrinkles, giving the eyes a heavy and tired appearance.

What is the ideal age to benefit from blepharoplasty?

This procedure is typically performed starting around the age of 40-45, but sometimes earlier due to hereditary factors.

Pre-surgery assessment techniques:

The procedure is performed in a clinic under local anesthesia in the vast majority of cases. A mild sedative may be administered. If desired by the patient, general anesthesia can also be planned but is rarely necessary.

Upper eyelids:

Upper eyelid blepharoplasty is indicated when there is excess skin forming a fold that may extend to the lashes and interfere with makeup application.

Lower eyelids:

Lower eyelid blepharoplasty is indicated when there is swelling due to fatty bags, resulting in a constantly tired appearance. During the consultation, the surgeon will assess the tone of the lower eyelid and the extent of excess skin to choose the most suitable technique.

Consultation

  • Before proceeding with a breast augmentation, Dr. Bensimon must examine the breast gland and evaluate the quality, thickness of the skin, the presence of potential sagging, and the morphology of the chest.
  • Measurements are taken to determine if your build is compatible with the size of the chosen implant and to assess if concurrent breast lifting is necessary.
  • The type of implants used, their size, the placement site, and the type of incision used should be tailored to each patient. Therefore, it is essential to discuss these factors with Dr. Bensimon during the consultation.
  • Trials with several implant sizes will be conducted so that you can have an idea of your future silhouette.

The Surgery

For the upper eyelids:

A skin excision in the shape of an ellipse is made in the natural fold and will be hidden in this natural fold located 1 cm above the eyelashes. If there are fatty bags, they are removed at the same time.

For the lower eyelids:

Two techniques can be proposed depending on the extent of skin laxity and the fragility of the eyelid.

  • If there is primarily SKIN excess. The incision is made along the eyelash line. Fatty bags are then removed. The skin is cautiously tightened to avoid “pulling” on the eyelid and altering the appearance (round eye).
  • If there is primarily FAT excess. Fatty bags are removed through a conjunctival approach, meaning from inside the eyelid without any visible scar.

Fat can also be redistributed to conceal prominent dark circles. CO2 laser can also complement skin resurfacing.

Eyelid surgery can be performed alone or in conjunction with other rejuvenation techniques: Forehead Lift or Face and Neck Lift.

After the Surgery

  • The risks are very low and include, as with any surgery, infection, bleeding, or eyelid retraction.
  • There is very little postoperative pain, and most patients only take Tylenol. Cold compresses should be applied during the first 48 hours to reduce swelling and bruising.
  • The stitches are removed after 6-7 days, and there may be bruising, which typically disappears after a week; makeup can be applied. The recovery period is one week.
