Poly-L-lactic acid Injections, Sculptra in Montreal

Injectable poly-L-lactic acid “PLLA” is commercially known as Sculptra.

PLLA is known as a biostimulatory dermal filler, meaning it stimulates your own skin to produce new collagen.

What do Poly-L-lactic acid injections involve?

As we age, the fat, muscles, bones, and skin of our face begin to thin out. This loss of volume leads to either a sunken appearance or sagging of the face.

Over time, your skin breaks down PLLA into water and carbon dioxide. The effects of PLLA appear gradually over a few months, producing natural-looking results.

PLLA dermal filler products are temporary and last up to two years, depending on the patient. Most patients require maintenance treatments to achieve the best results.

How is the PLLA injection procedure performed?

Is injectable poly-lactic acid painful?

Topical anesthetic agents or anesthetic injections are sometimes applied to relieve discomfort. In addition, lidocaine is commonly added to PLLA to enhance patient comfort. Before and after treatment, ice may be administered to relieve discomfort and swelling. Patients are encouraged to massage the areas to be treated for the first 5 days, 5 times a day, for 5 minutes each. We call this the 5-5-5 rule.
